Staffers at the Windsor nonprofit Rideshare have ended an "exhaustive"
search for a new home, opening next week in the former Capewell Horsenails building on Blue Hills Avenue in Bloomfield.

Rideshare staffer Nanci Fitzgerald said the move is the end of an "exhaustive" search for a new home after the end of the company's lease at its Windsor location.

Rideshare will occupy about 12,000 square feet of administrative space in its new building at 1404 Blue hills Ave., a space comparable in size to its former location at 100 Corporate Drive, Suite 100, Windsor.

However, Fitzgerald said, the company will add about 3,500 square feet of indoor parking, as well as 18,000 square feet of outdoor parking for its vehicles.

Rideshare, a vanpool network that gives rides to 5,000 people every business day, had parked its vans at several different locations.

The expanded space will increase efficiency by housing the entire fleet on one site. The new indoor garage space also will allow the company to repair its vehicles on site.

Company officials say that last year's economic collapse led to increased ridership. Recently, the company has received inquiries into its services, although this growth was not the sole factor in the decision to move.

Fitzgerald said company growth and the desire for greater efficiency coupled with the end of the Windsor lease are the main reasons for relocating.

The nonprofit closed in Windsor on Thursday and will reopen in Bloomfield on Tuesday, June 1.
