Yard Goats Power of Ability Night 2024

Posted on by Meg MacKay

On Thursday, June 27th, The Rideshare Company hosted the Power of Ability Night event at the Hartford Yard Goats game in Hartford, CT. It was an amazing evening filled with home runs, quality time with friends, meeting new people, and enjoying the game amidst the exciting atmosphere of Dunkin' Park. With a win of 7-4 against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, The Yard Goats had a fantastic victory.

The Impact of Power Of Ability Night

In 2007, we initiated a partnership that would profoundly impact our company's relationship with our partners. Teaming up with the New Britain Rock Cats minor league baseball team, we launched what would become known as Power of Ability (POA) Night. This event was our gesture of appreciation, offering our customers free tickets to share with their clients, creating an occasion that united people for an evening of baseball and enjoyment.

Over the years, this partnership thrived. Both organizations evolved throughout the 2010s, and in 2016, the Rock Cats transitioned to become the Hartford Yard Goats. This significant change for the team expanded our partnership, elevating our Power of Ability Night events to new heights of success and community engagement.

This event had many sponsors as well. These organizations donated in order to make this memorable event possible. We are incredibly grateful for their appreciation and commitment to the cause. It was wonderful to meet many of the sponsors in person as both Angela Canova and Meg MacKay of the Rideshare Company handed out easy fleet branded bags and Yard Goats food vouchers for the night. We would like to thank our sponsors; Liberty Bank, Founders Technology Group, ChonReznick, Newgate Security, Infoshred, Ace Auto Body, Advanced Wheels, All Tech Electronics, Exposure, Dime Bank, Pension Consultants, The Computer Company, Macara Vehicle Services, Mondo, Amerprise Financial, Fiducient Advisors, Paine’s Recycling and Rubbish Removal, Street Fleet Mechanics, Mr. and Mrs. Hagan and Mr. and Mrs. Tower.

The Importance of Power of Ability Night

Over the years, as our Power of Ability (POA) Night events grew successful, we noticed that many attendees faced financial constraints, making these games one of their few opportunities for entertainment. Caregivers from DDS organizations, accompanying attendees of diverse abilities, often dipped into their own funds to cover meals and snacks.

In 2018, we launched fundraising efforts aimed at relieving caregivers of this financial burden during the game. Our goal was to ensure that everyone could enjoy the complete ballpark experience. Thanks to these efforts, we were able to provide not only free tickets but also complimentary meals to our customers and their clients.

Our annual event is eagerly anticipated by our friends and clients, and we are deeply grateful for the opportunity it provides to raise awareness for DDS organizations and to host an enjoyable evening of baseball. Our commitment to these organizations has led us to focus extensively on providing lift-equipped and wheelchair-accessible vehicles through our streamlined fleet program in collaboration with the Department of Developmental Services. This focus ensures safe and reliable transportation for all our clients every day. We are enthusiastic about planning next year's POA night and committed to building on our achievements.
