When you see a spider, what is your reaction? Do you step on it? Catch and release? Run away? Abandon your car in a river? The last option was the unfortunate outcome for a young Australian driver after a huntsman spider dropped into her lap while driving. After the spider landed, the driver tried to stop and apply the emergency brake, but flew out of the car a bit prematurely. While she assured her safety from the creepy crawly, the car slowly rolled into the nearby river. To the driver’s defense, have you seen a huntsman spider? They’re the size of a house!
We’ve all been there. Sitting in traffic, frustrated with the lack of movement. Wishing you could lift off and fly past all the sedentary vehicles. For most of us it stays as a daydream. For one factory worker in the Czech Republic, he made it a reality. After being frustrated wasting time in traffic during his commute to work, he built himself a small, one-seated airplane to fly to work. He successfully saved seven minutes from his commute each way. It would’ve been more, but not only is he resourceful, he is considerate. He takes a long way to work in his plane so he doesn’t disturb neighborhoods trying to sleep.
Getting a proper night’s sleep will help you stay alert, focused, sharpen your critical thinking skills, and can keep you out of embarrassing situations. Without a proper night’s sleep you could nod off in a work meeting, pass out during class, or fall asleep in a massage chair. The last one doesn’t sound so bad, unless the chair is a store display and you end up locked inside after they close. A man in a Japanese electronics store had sat down in a massage chair only to wake and find himself locked in a deserted store. The man tweeted to let people know what was going on before the police and store manager arrived to let him out.
This heat wave has been brutal. Days on days of humid, hot, oppressing heat. There are few things you want to do on days like these: swim, sit in the air conditioning, or eat ice cream. Thieves have begun capitalizing on the latter of those hot day activities. Ice cream theft has been reported around the country. One man in Florida was caught stealing an entire ice cream freezer from a convenience store. In New York there have been a string of ice cream robberies from a large chain grocery store. One couple was reported attempting to steal eighty containers of ice cream before they ditched the goods on the street while being pursued. Now I get it, it’s hot, and I too love ice cream, but come on people - don’t steal. That’s a Rocky Road you don’t want to go down.
Life is busy for most of us and having reminders can be quite helpful. We all set calendar reminders for work and personal events, a reminder on your phone to pick up groceries after work, and now your GPS may remind you not to leave your kid in the car. Popular mobile app WAZE has added a feature to their app that will alert drivers that have arrived at their destination to not forget their child or pet in the car. It may sound a bit crazy, but with the summer heat and the overall chaos of a hectic life, a little reminder could potentially save a life. If you have no kids or pets, this option isn’t mandatory; you can turn the reminders on and off as you wish.
