Gift Giving

Next year Finland celebrates its 100th anniversary of independence from Russia. Its neighbor Norway wanted to commend the anniversary with a gift, so they decided to move mountains to make that happen. No, literally, Norway is considering moving their borders to gift a mountain to their 100-year-old neighbor. The proposed gift would move the border about forty meters and gift Finland what would be their new highest peak by about seven meters. The moral of this story is don’t forget to invite Norway to your next birthday party.

ME to FL

Have you ever wanted to take a leisurely 3,000 mile stroll? You’ll soon be able to do that relatively safely and comfortably. The organization East Coast Greenway is working to create a mostly paved trail down the east coast from Maine to Florida. The project would provide an active, green alternative way to travel the east coast if that’s your thing. Or if you’re not up to the 3,000 mile trip, and live on the east coast, the project will provide local trails for you to enjoy.

Bear?!

We’ve all had things locked in our car that shouldn’t have been. You may have had to call the police after you locked your keys in the car. Or maybe your dog hit the lock after you ran into a store. But a Colorado woman had to call the police because there was a bear in her car! She came out of her house to see a bear had been locked in the car and was doing quite a number to the interior of her Subaru. No one is quite sure how the bear got in as there were no broken windows. The police came, opened the hatchback and the bear leapt out and ran off into the woods. No one was injured, but the poor Subaru interior was completely destroyed.

Need Another Reason to Walk?

Last week for iOS and Android the newest game from the Pokemon series released. Pokemon Go is an augmented reality game that gets the player to walk or bike (as the name suggests, “go”) out in the real world. The augmented reality places the adored Pokemon characters into your actual surroundings. You search them out while the game rewards you for visiting monuments, parks, and other places of interest. Whether Pokemon is your thing or not, the game makes for a great incentive program to motivate you to get out and walk.

Beam Me Up

While the rest of the world is stuck in 2016 looking to develop electric cars, more fuel efficient trains, and even vehicles that can drive themselves, Russia has their sites set on something a little more futuristic. Russia has laid out their two trillion dollar plan to develop teleportation by the year 2035. The technology has long been an idea in science fiction, and other countries have experimented with it before. Even if teleportation wasn’t available for personal travel, it could change the way packages are delivered, or online orders fulfilled, along with countless other potential uses for the technology.
