The last time dinosaurs caused a traffic jam was in Bedrock during the Stone Age. Actually, that isn’t entirely true. Dinosaurs were the cause of traffic in Bangkok just last week. A company was transporting animatronic dinosaur puppets to a department store display when commuters began to slow and stop to look at the large moving puppets. The company said that the puppets were too large to cover on the backs of the trucks. Local police got involved and fines were issued for disrupting traffic. There’s a joke in here somewhere about fossil fuel, I just can’t think of it… oh well, even if I thought of it, the joke is extinct now.
Regardless of the vehicle type, routine maintenance is a must. We’ve all been there with our own personal vehicles before. You glance up at the sticker on your windshield only to notice you’re due for an oil change. If you’re like me you’d pull into the closest, most convenient location to check this item off the to-do list. That may not be the case if you live in Regina. A local business offers free pierogies with an oil change. You pull in, wait while your oil is changed, and when you leave they give you a plate of pierogies! The idea sounds crazy… crazy tasty that is, and it would keep me coming back to get my oil changed!
With warmer weather around the corner, this time of year people begin to think about those warm weather vacations. I know what you’re saying to yourself, “I wish I had a larger option than mega yacht.” The struggle is real, and we understand. That’s why we’re happy to let you know there is another option popping up these days. If you have an extra $600,000 to a million dollars burning a hole in your pocket, you can rent an entire cruise ship to take you and your friends around for a seven-day excursion. Hopefully this knowledge helps you sleep better now that you know you are no longer confined to the finite space of your tiny mega yacht.
We’re big fans of public transportation, that’s no surprise. Some people however think transportation, like taking the subway, stinks! Not that they believe it’s a bad way to commute, but they literally feel it smells bad. In an effort to combat the olfactory assaults a student from the School of Visual Arts in NYC has started putting homemade scratch and sniff posters around the subway. The posters allow subway riders to scratch and sniff for a brief break from the usual smells around the subway. The posters treat commuters to smells like vanilla, lavender and sweet orange blossom. Whether you’re a fan of those scents or not, it has to be better than some of the other smells that can be found in a subway tunnel.
This time of year most of us are happy to see some warmer temperatures. This may not be the case for some attendees of Winterfest in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, however. As parking became scarce at the event attendees began parking on frozen Geneva Lake. This is nothing new, but the unseasonably warm forty-degree day was. Over a dozen of the vehicles sunk into the lake when the ice gave way. On a positive note, no one was injured as the cars were all unattended. We’ll chalk this up as another example of why it might be better to leave your car at home and find an alternate way to commute.
